GARAGE SALE - HOW YOU CAN MAKE IT A SUCCESS AND MAKE MONEY
Would you like to make money with all your treasures or junk You can, by holding a garage sale. If you have a garage great! but if you don't consider a yard sale, someone else's house or even taking your stuff to a flea market for the weekend. In order to sell you do need to know the secrets of success. Some careful planning will assure you of a successful sale.
Check with your city or county to see if you need a permit to sell. Sometimes you need to just fill out a paper and post it at your location. You may have to figure sales tax or pay a fee for the permit. The city will usually give you some signs to advertise your sale. When you have a sale be ready for those early birds. If you schedule the sale for 8am. be sure you are ready at 7am.Those resellers of your valuables at the flea market want to be the first in line.Believe me,they are there in line first and will want the cheapest price possible. Don't give in too early because the day is young and you really don't want to start out too cheap. The early afternoon is the time to cut prices and to give away what you want. Pack up the rest if you want and take it to Goodwill etc.
.Use free advertising,a newspaper ad,word of mouth, fliers, postcards to the neighborhood, etc.
It takes some time to set up a sale. First you have to get together your stuff. Pens, paper, calculator, tables, chairs, stickers for pricing, money for change, people to help set up(usually the night before) Sometimes you want to have some brownies, cookies, drinks,or cakes to sell. They make good ice-breakers to get them excited about your sale.
Some of these things sell well: appliances - large and small books - paperback and hard cover costume jewelry sports equipment plants linens / bedding children's toys flatware - silver and stainless steel baby equipment phonograph records / tapes shoes / boots patio equipment garden tools kitchen utensils / gadgets china / bric-a-brac clothing, especially children's pictures / frames
Now that you've decided when your sale will be held and just what you're going to sell, the following tips will help make your day a success:
Put a price tag on every item. Mark your prices clearly. This makes it easier for a customer to browse. Masking tape is excellent for price tags.
Make sure your merchandise is very clean. Goods that are polished and in good condition will sell faster than old dusty items.
Be ready to deal with customers promptly at opening time. Have everything ready and be wearing a smile..
Save your bags for a few weeks before your sale, so you can offer your customers some wrapping for their purchases.Plastic bags work well but you also need some wrapping paper like newspaper for those fragil objects.
Be prepared to haggle with customers.
Sales are tiring so budget your time and your sell will be more fun.Being well prepared is everything in having a successful sale and making lots of money.
So go get those potential buyers and free yourself of used itemsand by all means MAKE SOME MONEY!!!. Alyssa
