1.    Are you a self-starter?
a.     I do things on my own.  Nobody has to tell me to get going.
b.     If someone gets me started, I can keep it. 
c.     I don't usually put myself out until I have to.

2.    How do you feel about other people?
a.     I like people. I can get along with just about anybody.
b.     I have plenty of friends —I don't really need any more.
c.     Most people irritate me.

3.    Can you lead others?
a.     I can easily get people to go along with my projects when I start one.
b.     I can give direction if someone tells me what we should do.
c.      I let someone else get things moving.  Then I go along if I feel like it.

4.    Can you take responsibility?
a.     I like to take charge of things and see them through.
b.     I'll take over if I have to, but I'd rather let someone else be responsible.
c.      There's always some eager beaver around wanting to show how smart he is, I say let him.

5.    Are you a good organizer?
a.    I like to have a plan before I start and I'm usually the who one makes them.
b.    I can pull things together pretty well but sometimes I change the plan on the fly.
c.     I usually just take things as they come.

6.    How is your work ethic?
a.    I can keep going as long as I need to. I don't mind working hard for something I want.
b.    I'll work hard when I need to but I do have a life.
c.     I can't see that hard work gets you anywhere.

7.    Can you make decisions?
a.    I can make up my mind in a hurry, when needed, and it usually turns out for the best.
b.    I don’t like to be rushed into making a decision but I stand by my decisions.
c.     I don't like to be the one who has to decide.

8.    Do people trust what you say?
a.    You bet they do!  I won't say it if I didn't mean it.  
b.    I try to be on the level most of the time, but sometimes I just say what's easiest.
c.     Why bother if the other fellow doesn't know the difference?

9.    Are you persistent?
a.    Once I make up my mind, nothing stops me.
b.    I usually finish what I start—if I’m making progress consistently.
c.     If I’m not making progress right away, I don’t keep with it.

10. Are you in overall good health?
a.    I am energetic, fit and excited about life.
b.    I have enough energy for most things I do and am looking forward to something different in life.
c.     I run out of energy sometimes and need to see a doctor often.

Scoring

For each A answer, give yourself 3 points.  For each B answer, give yourself 2 points and for a C answer, 1 point.

Score 30-24 – You’ve got what it takes to run a business!  With applied effort, you are very likely to be successful running your own business.  You may have some obstacles to overcome, but your natural abilities and skills will help you along the way.

Score 23-16 – You may have some challenges ahead of you.  Maybe you can find a partner who is strong on the points where you're weak.  If your intentions are clear, you can make it, but your road may be bumpy.

Score 15 or less – You may want to rethink your decision to start your own business.  Some people’s temperament and circumstances are just a better fit working for someone else.  Look inside carefully.  Decide if this is really the opportunity for you.
